POUGHKEEPSIE – A Mobile Life ambulance was flagged down on Main Street Saturday evening for a dispute between two parties with a knife involved.  The ambulance staff notified the police and asked them to rush to the scene in front of 318 Main Street.  The incident occurred at approximately 6:00 p.m.

A man sustained lacerations to his head and was treated at the scene by EMS personnel.  Witnesses identified the suspect when police arrived and he was taken into custody.

The witnesses told police that the suspect had used what is being described as a butcher knife to cut the victim before walking to the other side of the street.  However, the witnesses were apprehensive about telling the police where the suspect had discarded the knife, despite several people seeing the fight.

Police were searching under cars, in garbage cans, and in storm drains in an attempt to recover the weapon.

The suspect was transported to police headquarters for processing.

The victim was triaged at the scene and transported to a local hospital.
