Sullivan County Legislative Chairman Robert Doherty announces $500,000 of county funding being made available to victims of the recent tornado.

MONTICELLO- On Thursday, Sullivan County Legislature Chairman Robert Doherty announced $500,000 of county funding to assist victims of the recent tornado in Sullivan County.  County officials have made these funds immediately available to impacted residents to assist with losses not covered by private insurance.

“Many families in Sullivan County are living paycheck to paycheck,” said Doherty. “The purpose of this funding is to make families whole because nobody should have to choose between meeting an insurance deductible and putting food on the table.”

The county funding is being made available through prior Community Development Block Grants that were secured for the purposes of disaster relief and have not yet been spent.

“Only in the past few years has the county been compiling funds from these grants,” said Doherty.  “These funds were secured in anticipation of an emergency like this one and can be made available in a time like this because of advanced planning.”

Funds can be used for any purpose that will help impacted individuals return to their homes.  This includes, but is not limited to, debris removal, tree cutting, roof and other structure repairs, and insurance deductibles.

Impacted individuals should contact their County Legislator to submit an application for funds.

Residents in the Town of Callicoon should contact District 5 Legislator George Conklin at 845-807-0438 or by email at george.conklin@sullivanny.us.

Residents in the Town of Rockland should contact District 3 Legislator Michael Brooks at 845-807-0443 or by email at michael.brooks@sullivanny.us.
