Sullivan County is preparing financial assistance for tornado damage.

ROSCOE – In the wake of last weekend’s tornado that devastated areas of Sullivan County, the county legislature is going to allocate funds to aid people who suffered property damage.

Legislature Chairman Rob Doherty announced on Thursday that the county will do its part with $500,000 set aside for relief.

“Some people do have insurance, deductibles,” he said. “Sometimes $3,000, $4,000, $5,000, is beyond someone’s reach, and I think, if we all pull together, we use the resources of our state and our federal government, together with the county, I think we can move forward very quickly.”

Doherty asked the state Assembly and Senate to each contribute $250,000 toward relief. Congressman Marcus Molinaro (R, NY-19) has asked FEMA to kick in funding to assist local residents.

Dr. Norris Chumley of Callicoon Center, Thursday, described how the tornado ripped through his property leveling structures.
