POUGHKEEPSIE – The body of a man who jumped from the Walkway Over the Hudson was recovered Wednesday, shortly after he called 911 to report that he was planning to commit suicide.  City of Poughkeepsie police were en route to the Walkway but did not make it there before the man jumped at approximately 1:50 p.m. on April 26, 2023.

The body traveled north in the Hudson River and police were able to direct the Poughkeepsie Fire Department rescue boat and a Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) vessel to the partially submerged body, located across from the Dutchess Landing Apartment complex.

The body was recovered by the DCSO at approximately 2:10 p.m. and transported to a dock further north where he was taken ashore by waiting first responders.

The investigation has been turned over to the New York State Police.

Police told Mid-Hudson News that no witnesses called 911 to report the incident.
