GOSHEN- Dana Distributors of Goshen has teamed up with law enforcement in the Hudson Valley to distribute We ID guidebooks at no cost to bars, restaurants, liquor stores, and other businesses that have to ID patrons for alcohol or tobacco sales.

According to Eric Chaboty, Sullivan County Undersheriff, the books are helpful for businesses to verify the validity of identifications provided by customers.  Chaboty indicated that even for an experienced shopkeeper, familiarity with every identification from all 50 states, US Territories, and Canada can be a difficult task.  The law in New York requires that identification is provided for individuals purchasing alcohol or tobacco.

“The Sullivan County Sheriff’s office, in its continuing commitment to discourage underage drinking is working on a program whereby deputies are handing out ID books, which have been provided by Dana Distributors, that’s our local Anheuser-Busch beer distributor, and basically the ID book has a copy, a sample, of every driver’s license in the United States, Canada, and every US Territory,” said Chaboty.

Tom Kennedy, General Sales Manager at Dana Distributors, is working with sheriffs from Orange, Rockland, and Sullivan County to distribute the ID books.  Kennedy said the ID books are helpful because they provide guidance for the proper format of IDs
, which differ significantly from state to state.

If your business is located in Orange, Rockland, or Sullivan County and you would like a We ID guidebook, please contact your county sheriff’s office.
