TOWN OF ULSTER – Eight middle school students were transported to local hospitals after an accident involving their school bus on Monday morning.  The Town of Ulster Police responded to the accident at the intersection of Town Hall and Enterprise Drives at approximately 7:38 a.m., according to Ulster Police Chief Kyle Berardi.

Upon arrival, officers located a 2018 Nissan Rogue being operated by John Pierre-Louis of Kingston who was traveling eastbound on Town Hall Drive when he collided with a 2023 Freightliner School Bus owned by First Student Inc. and being operated by Julian Franklin III of Pine Bush, NY who was traveling northbound on Enterprise Drive. Investigation revealed that both vehicles had stopped at the intersection.  Pierre-Louis then entered the intersection after failing to see that the bus had already entered the intersection after stopping.  Pierre-Louis then struck the bus with his vehicle.

Three passengers in the Nissan Rogue and eight passengers out of sixteen on the school bus were transported to local hospitals with minor injuries for evaluation. The investigation is ongoing at this time.

The Ulster Police Department was assisted on the scene by Miller Middle School staff, New York State Police, Ulster Hose Fire Department, Mobile Life Support, and the Kingston Fire Department.
