RHINECLIFF – Jim Langan, the “political junkie” turned newspaper publisher passed away on February 15, 2023, after several battles with cancer.  Langan, a diehard Boston Red Sox fan and publisher of The Hudson Valley News was 76 years old at the time of his death.

According to Langan’s obituary, he was born in New York City in 1947, attended the Cushing Academy, and then earned his BA from Boston College.
One of Mr. Langan’s proudest accomplishments was attending every home game of the Red Sox during the team’s “Impossible Dream” season of 1967 and he boasted of the accomplishment at every opportunity.
While in college Jim volunteered for Bobby Kennedy’s presidential campaign.  After graduating college, the politico spent time as a speechwriter for President Nixon’s administration.  Langan eventually made his way back to Boston where he spent several years in the financial world before transitioning to a career in media.  Beginning in the late 1980s Langan worked as an executive producer for the Morton Downey Jr. show before creating The Hudson Valley News where he served as his publication’s executive editor for 14 years.  Jim’s unique writing style has been described as humorously colorful with a touch of sarcasm.  It was well known that the less he liked a public official, the more sarcastic the articles about the person became.
Jim leaves behind his wife of 25 years, Caroline Carey along with son Jay, daughter Kristen, their spouses, and several grandchildren.
Plans are being made for a celebration of the life of Jim Langan in the spring.
