NEW WINDSOR – A New Windsor man who emigrated to the United States in 1998 lost his sister-in-law and two young nephews to the Turkish earthquake and  his employer has launched a GoFundMe page to raise money for the family.

Cem (pronounced “Jim”) Birinci told Mid-Hudson News he is at a loss for words to describe how his family feels about the tragedy.

“Every time I look at the TV, I just cry. I don’t even know how to explain it. It’s not just about me. I see everybody else who went through that tragedy seeing that a lot of people don’t have houses anymore,” he said.

Birinci said the entire village where his sister-in-law and children lived has been leveled by the earthquake.

Birinci’s employer, CPD Group/CPD Energy of New Paltz, said it will match donations up to $3,000. As of late Tuesday night, more than $7,400 had been pledged on the GoFundMe account.
