MONTICELLO – A 48-year-old Monticello man has been sentenced in Sullivan County Court to nine years in state prison on his guilty plea to felony criminal possession of a weapon.

Gregory Cochran, a five-time convicted felon, took the plea shortly before a jury trial was to begin.

The conviction stems from the execution of two search warrants in Monticello on May 20, 2022 by State Police and the Sullivan County District Attorney’s Office following a domestic violence complaint.

Acting DA Brian Conaty said Cochran was found in possession of a loaded, illegal 9 mm pistol, cocaine and fentanyl.

Cochran was sentenced as a second violent felony offender.

“Those who possess illegal firearms in Sullivan County will go to prison. It’s that simple,” said Conaty.
