WEST POINT – The Michie Stadium Preservation Project, the most ambitious gift-funded construction project in the history of the United States Military Academy, is rapidly progressing towards reaching the targeted goal of $145 million, with the aim of construction beginning in the summer of 2023 and completion by the first home Army football game in 2025. The West Point Association of Graduates (WPAOG) and Army West Point Athletics Association (AWPAA) have currently secured $112 million in funding for support of the project.

“I am enormously grateful to the generous donors who have brought us to this point with this historic and ambitious project,” Director of Athletics Mike Buddie said. “The new East Stands and Athletic Center of Excellence (ACE) will have a transformative impact on the Army West Point Athletic program. I am excited about being in the home stretch with our fundraising and eager to see us sprint to the finish.”

New renderings of and expanded naming opportunities for the project have been released. In addition to the reconstruction of the East Stands, a new 162,000-square-foot structure, the Athletic Center of Excellence (ACE), features amenities such as premium suites, loge boxes, ledge seats, club-level seating areas, and expanded and improved concessions. The new ACE will provide offices and spaces to welcome recruits and showcase Army West Point cadet-athletes.

In the new East Stands, the Corps of Cadets seating section will stretch from end zone to end zone ensuring that the cadets are a central focus as well as an amplifying source of game-day support for the cadet-athletes on the field. Finally, the stadium’s surrounding landscape will be reconfigured to improve accessibility while capitalizing on the panoramic views of Lusk Reservoir, the Cadet Chapel, Fort Putnam, and the scenic Hudson Valley. Central to this new environment is the creation of Victory Plaza, a pedestrian-only area along the reservoir’s edge that will celebrate the achievements of notable West Point graduates.

Built in 1924, Michie Stadium has become a West Point icon and serves as the gateway to the Academy. The transformational Michie Stadium Preservation Project will preserve and protect Michie Stadium’s history and tradition while providing an elite world-class experience for cadets, graduates, donors, and fans.
