RYE – The driver of a box truck who was outside his vehicle adding coolant, was killed when a tractor-trailer going eastbound on Interstate 287 in Rye went off the road and struck the other truck.
Richard Bradwell, 65, of White Plains, who was outside the box truck, was injured and died at Greenwich Hospital in Connecticut, State Police said.
A passenger in the box truck, Jane Murray, 62, of White Plains, along with the driver of the 18-wheeler, Kevin Roman, 26, of Levittown, Pennsylvania, were transported to Westchester Medical Center where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
A passenger in the tractor-trail, Israel Velez, 57, of Bristol, Pennsylvania, was transported to Stamford Hospital in Connecticut for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
State troopers from the New Rochelle barracks were assisted at the scene by Troop K Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the Collision Reconstruction Unit, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit and Thruway Maintenance.
The cause of the 4:15 a.m. accident on December 27 remains under investigation.
