MID-HUDSON – Area utility companies are bracing for the potential of a powerful cold front that could bring with it damaging winds and heavy rain Thursday night and much of the day on Friday.

As the cold front moves through the area, temperatures are expected to drop below freezing and remain there for several days.

Central Hudson, Orange and Rockland and NYSEG are preparing for the storm by readying crews, stocking supplies and materials, communicating with community leaders and following an approved storm plan.

In the event power lines come down, residents are advised to stay at least 30 feet away from them and remember that lines may be entangled and hidden in fallen trees and limbs. Residents should also assume all downed lines are live.
