NEWBURGH – The City of Newburgh has taken possession of two new $500,000-a-piece firetrucks that will replace old ones.

City Manager Todd Venning said they are state-of-the-art vehicles.

“Engines meet national fire department standards and are able to carry the current compliment of equipment our firefighters need, plus they will be able to expand when the technology changes,” he told the Monday night city council session. “Training on these apparatuses has already begun and we hope to have engines in service seen.”

A $1.5 million ladder truck is on order and is expected to be delivered in mid-2023.

The old vehicles will be auctioned off.

Meanwhile, Mayor Torrance Harvey said five individuals are in the fire academy and when they graduate, “it will add to their numbers, their rank-and-file.”

Those new firefighters will actually not add to the ranks as they will fill existing vacancies.
