Large turnout at Plattekill Planning Board meeting

MODENA – A group showed up at the Plattekill Planning Board session Tuesday night to voice their opposition to a planned campground, Red Cedar Ridge, a 30-site facility on 501 Huckleberry Turnpike near the border of the towns of Marlborough and Plattekill.

David Campbell and Mallory Cash are seeking a special use permit for the 103-acre property, but members of the Huckleberry Preservation Group want to stop that because they fear there will be too much noise, traffic and trespassing by campers along with the destruction of natural beauty, fire hazards and possible desecration of Native American lands.

“I wouldn’t oppose it if it was five cabins or five RVs, 30 is overwhelming,” said Donna Connell, a neighbor and a member of the Huckleberry Group. “Traffic will be increased; water will be depleted.”

Campbell and Cash conducted a public presentation at Plattekill Town Hall and plan to site 30 cabins in the M3 Mountain zone, which allows for eight sites per acre and far more than is being planned.
