GOSHEN – Orange-Ulster BOCES Chief Operating Officer William Hecht is retiring in a matter of days.
The announcement that his last day will be December 31, his wife’s birthday, was made on Wednesday.
Hecht, who has been in education for 40 years, had led BOCES for the last 10 years.
“I’m going to miss the kids,” he said. “That’s why we’re here. We’re here to provide the students with the education and environment that they deserve.”
Hecht’s favorite time of the year is graduation season watching students walk across the stage, smiling and saying what BOCES meant to them.
The retiring educator and his wife plan to be full-time grandparents to their two granddaughters, visiting family and traveling.
