Poughkeepsie police investigate possible shooting that sent man to hospital

Police at the scene where a man with a possible gunshot wound was located at Church and South White Streets.

POUGHKEEPSIE – City of Poughkeepsie 911 dispatch received a report of a man with a suspected gunshot wound in the parking lot at the intersection of Church and South White Streets Friday evening at approximately 6:22 p.m.  Police were already in the neighborhood for an unrelated issue and responded within moments.

Officers located a male suffering from a wound to the chest.  He was lying on the ground next to an SUV in the parking lot.

Fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene and rushed the man to a Poughkeepsie hospital with what was described as “One, possibly two gunshot wounds to the chest,” according to radio traffic.

City of Poughkeepsie police secured the area, with some interviewing potential witnesses while others searched the area for evidence.

At 6:30 p.m. an officer radioed in that a handgun had been located in the vicinity of where the victim had been found.

A police source at the scene told Mid-Hudson News that the victim was unable to effectively communicate where the incident occurred and was unable to describe a suspect, due to his injuries.

The man’s wounds have not been confirmed to be gun-related and the recovered handgun has yet to be linked to the incident.
