WHITE PLAINS – Westchester County Executive George Latimer, Thursday, introduced his proposed 2023 county budget of $2.4 billion, a spending plan that reduces the county general fund tax levy by $6 million, the fourth year in a row that the levy has been reduced.

Latimer said the budget places particular emphasis on public safety and emergency preparedness, housing, health and mental health services, and environmental and economic development programs.

“We don’t expect you to figure out how to dispose of your garbage. We don’t expect you to figure out how to repair a bridge that you drive over every day,” he said in his budget message. “You work hard, you save your money and use your money for the benefit of your family. We, in a government context, do that which we have to do to provide services that enhances that.”

The county executive said there are “no financial gimmicks, one-shots, borrowings for operating expenses, or use of reserves of any kind in my proposal.”

The county board of legislators will now go over the spending plan with a fine-tooth comb before making any modifications and adopting it.
