YORKTOWN – Town Supervisor Matt Slater of Yorktown, a Republican, has soundly defeated his Democratic challenger, attorney Kathleen Valletta, to become the next member of the New York State Assembly, representing the 94th District.

Current Assemblyman Kevin Byrne, a Republican, did not seek re-election to the seat and ran unopposed to become the next Putnam County Executive.

Slater is familiar with the inner workings of Albany, having served as Chief of Staff to former State Senator Terrence Murphy.  The Marist College graduate has previously served as a top aide to Westchester County Board of Elections Commissioner Douglas Colety, a campaign manager with the New York Senate Republican Campaign Committee, Chief of Staff for State Assemblyman Steve Katz, and a regional coordinator for the New York Republican Assembly Campaign Committee.

Slater has received 32,063 votes in the race, compared to Valletta’s 17,607.

The 94th Assembly District covers portions of Putnam and Westchester counties including the towns of Yorktown, Carmel, Somers, Southeast, Patterson, and Putnam Valley.

Yorktown Deputy Town Supervisor Tom Diana will assume Slater’s role as town supervisor in January.
