OSSINING – State Senator Pete Harckham won re-election on Tuesday.

While the State Board of Elections posted the Democrat as losing to Republican Gina Arena, a tally from three county boards of elections show he defeated his opponent by 7,932 votes.

“The confidence and trust that residents have placed in me once again will continue to guide my intentions,” he said in a statement on Wednesday. “These are challenging times, though, and I look forward to being engaged in the hard work necessary to ensure a better future for all.”

In January, he will represent the new 40th Senate District.
