MONTICELLO – A 40-year-old Haverstraw man was sentenced in Sullivan County Court to 20 years in state prison plus 15 years of post-release supervision on his convictions for criminal sexual assault and assault.

A Sullivan County grand jury indicted Jose Gomez in 2019, following a victim’s disclosure that she and Gomez, who had been previously involved romantically, drove to Liberty in 2017, where Gomez assaulted and sexually abused her.

A jury convicted Gomez following a four-day trial last November, at which several witnesses, including the victim, testified.

Following days resulting from motions by the defense, Judge Danielle Jose-Decker imposed the sentence last Friday.

The court also issued a permanent order of protection foreclosing Gomez from having any contact with the woman.

“This defendant’s actions inflicted a lifetime of trauma on his victim, who bravely testified at trial.

The investigation into the arrest was conducted by State Police and Clarkstown Police.
