Possible rabid skunks in Town of Poughkeepsie

POUGHKEEPSIE – The Dutchess County Department of Behavioral & Community Health warns residents that aggressive skunks were observed between October 30 and November 1, 2022 near Rochdale Road in the Town of Poughkeepsie. These skunks may be rabid.

It is important not to approach or contact wild animals, officials said.

If you observe an aggressive or strange-acting skunk, take precautions to prevent contact to humans or pets.

If you or your pet have had contact with a skunk, the incident should be reported to the Dutchess County Department of Behavioral & Community Health as soon as possible at 845-486-3404 Monday through Friday 9AM-5PM, or at 845-431-6465, on nights and weekends.
