LIVINGSTON MANOR – Residents in the tiny Livingston Manor and Roscoe school districts turned thumbs down to a merger in a straw vote conducted on Wednesday.

A total of 406 people voted against it while 352 supported it.

Had the vote been in favor of the districts forming one new one, residents would have been asked to vote in a formal election at a later date.

The two school boards will now meet individually to discuss possible next moves.

The vote tally in the Roscoe Central School District was 155 in favor and 193 opposed to a merger.

In the Livingston Manor Central School District, 197 people voted for the merger while 213 opposed it.
