NEW CITY – A 46-year-old Stony Point man was indicted by a Rockland County grand jury for allegedly attacking and beating his girlfriend with a hammer while she was showering in a West Nyack hotel.

Todd Humphrey was charged with attempted murder, assault and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in connection with the attack at the Tappan Zee Hotel at 110 North Route 303.

Despite her head lacerations, the victim was able to escape the room and was assisted by hotel staff who called 911.

Humphrey fled the area and was spotted in Putnam County where he led State Police in a vehicle pursuit that ended in a crash on Interstate 84 in the Town of Newburgh.

He led police on a chase on the highway traveling in the wrong direction, over the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge until he was taken into custody.
