Spring Valley man arrested in North Carolina after a domestic shooting

YONKERS – A 21-year-old Spring Valley man has been arrested in Charlotte, North Carolina after he fled a Yonkers apartment where he allegedly shot a male relative of his domestic partner in the early morning hours of Wednesday, October 19.

The 33-year-old victim, a resident of Yonkers, drove himself to a nearby hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to his arm. 

The suspect was identified by investigators as Nahkeem Janvier.

Police said it appeared that the men had engaged in a dispute that escalated to violence with Janvier pulling a gun and firing at least three shots, one of which struck the victim.

Janvier fled the scene and ultimately the state. An arrest warrant was issued charging him with attempted murder and unlawful possession of a weapon.

Yonkers Police, working with Spring Valley Police and the FBI Safe Streets Task Force, tracked him to the Charlotte, North Carolina area where he was apprehended on Sunday, October 23 by the FBI Charlotte Violent Crime Task Force and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Violent Crime Apprehension Team. 

He is now awaiting extradition back to New York.
