MONTICELLO – Purveyors of fentanyl are now peddling their poison to the younger demographics with the way they are packaging the lethal drug.

That has Sullivan County Health and Human Services Deputy Commissioner Wendy Brown, head of the county’s opioid task force, worried.

“They are packaging the fentanyl pills, they are colored, and they look like candy, so we are putting out an alert to all the schools; we are going to do public service announcements to make sure people are aware this is poison, they are marketing poison,” she told members of the county legislature’s Public Safety and Law Enforcement Committee on Thursday.

County officials have been told that most fatal overdoses in the county occur as a result of fentanyl-laced opioids.
