Communicated Content – In 1981, Kenneth Feld, chairman and CEO of Feld Entertainment, reached out to Disney with the idea of producing an ice skating extravaganza featuring the company’s beloved characters. This proposal led to “Walt Disney’s World on Ice” opening to a sold-out crowd in the New Jersey Meadowlands on July 14, 1981.

In 1986, “Happy Birthday Donald” opened in Japan, becoming the first international ice-skating show featuring Disney characters. Two years later, five productions went on tour. In 1997, “Walt Disney’s World on Ice” became Disney on Ice, and the show would eventually become so popular that Feld Entertainment started launching a new production every year. There are at least eight Disney On Ice shows touring at any given time.

Famous Faces

Since the beginning, Disney on Ice has featured some very famous faces. Linda Fratianne, an Olympic medalist and World Champion figure skater, was a featured performer in the very first production and continued to make appearances over the next 10 years. Fellow Olympic medalists like Katarina Witt and Phillippe Candeloro have also appeared in productions. Perhaps no face in a Disney On Ice production is more famous than Mickey Mouse, who’s headlined every show since its debut.

Average Disney On Ice ticket prices ranges from $45 for back-of-the-arena seats to $247 for main-floor seats. VIP packages are also available.
