To the Editor:

As a woman and a mother, the crime epidemic raging across our state is of great personal concern to me. This is bigger than any statistic on the nightly news; too many women live in fear that they’ll be targeted for robbery, assault, or worse by the career criminals free to run amok thanks to the dangerous bail “reform” laws passed by the Democratic state legislature in Albany.
New York is the only state in the nation where our judges are not allowed to use discretion to set bail on a defendant because that person is considered dangerous by the court.
The numbers speak for themselves: since these laws went into effect in 2020, 10 career criminals in New York City racked up almost 500 arrests! It’s not just NYC- property offenses and violent crime rates have soared statewide, compared to 2019.
It is a simple calculation that has been ignored by Albany. More criminals are free to commit more crimes.
Rob Rolison will stand with women and other victims of crime and oppose Albany’s soft-on-crime laws.
As the Mayor of the City of Poughkeepsie for the past 7 years, he has hired more police officers while other cities chose to defund law enforcement. Mayor Rolison, himself, is a retired detective from the Town of Poughkeepsie police department with 30 years of experience wearing the uniform and keeping us safe.
Rob Rolison is running for the State Senate in the 39th District and will vote to repeal these ill-advised bail reform laws. New York is on the wrong track. This is our chance to change course in Albany.
Please join me in supporting Rob Rolison for State Senate by voting for him on November 8th.
