POUGHKEEPSIE – Construction of the 2.7-mile Dutchess County Urban Rail Trail that will connect the city and town of Poughkeepsie is underway.  The trail will run from Quiet Cove Park just north of Marist College into the city.

The construction is developing an old rail bed from the Hudson Heritage Center on Route 9 (former Hudson River Psychiatric Center), south behind the Home Depot plaza, and will include a bridge over Fulton Street.  A spur of the trail is also proposed to run on the west side of Route 9 south from Marist College to the Hudson River waterfront in the city.

Construction has been moving forward on the section of the trail between Cedar Avenue in the town and Parker Avenue in the city.  The construction can be viewed from the Dutchess County Rail Trail overpass between Fairview Avenue and Washington Street.

The trail will continue south from Fulton Street, connecting with the Dutchess Rail Trail at Parker Avenue, then continuing south behind the Dutchess County Jail, and terminating at North Hamilton Street.
