PEEKSKILL – Police in Peekskill have determined that a man who barricaded himself inside a residence at 10 Grant Avenue in the city and refused to come out, was the man believed to have stabbed another man to death in front of 7 North James Street at about 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

Edward Reeves, 48, who suffered several stab wounds to his torso and arm, died at Westchester Medical Center.

Detectives followed leads, went to 10 Grant Street where they found 30-year-old Peekskill resident Shane Gilleo barricaded inside on the second floor of the multi-family residence.

Police attempted to negotiate with Gilleo to give up, but instead, he apparently set the house on fire, shattered a second-floor porch window and got out of the house, but was arrested by police and taken to Westchester Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

No one else was inside the building at the time of the fire.

Investigation determined that several fires were set inside the second-floor apartment.

Gilleo was charged with murder and arson and was being held pending arraignment.
