POUGHKEEPSIE – Dozens of golfers took to the McCann Golf Course in Poughkeepsie on Monday for an annual golf tournament honoring fallen Poughkeepsie firefighter Tim “Timbo” Gunther.  The late Gunther, an avid golfer, was killed in the line of duty in May of 2015 after fighting a fire.

Gunther’s widow and two children once again competed in the tournament that raises money for the Poughkeepsie firefighters union, IAFF Local 596.  Before the golfers took to the course, Gunther’s 27-year-old daughter Tess thanked the participants and offered golf tips that her father had handed down to her.  “Concentrate – hit the ball straight, and try to get it on the green,” she said, and continued with “Have a great round of golf, think of Timbo, and have fun.”

Local 596 President Nick Bucher said “Timbo was a respected member of our department who paid the ultimate price while serving the city.  This tournament brings together many of his family and friends to share memories while also helping the union raise funds that we use for other charitable events.”
