SHANDAKEN – The Town of Shandaken has adopted a short-term rental law that caps the total of non-resident rentals at 150. As of July 27, the town has processed 87 applications.
The City of Newburgh is considering adoption of a similar law to protect city residential rental availabilities and to keep rates at reasonable levels.
In Shandaken, all short-term rentals must have a license to operate.
The structure will be inspected to ensure compliance with the fire protection and building safety code.
The owner must show landlord, short-term rental, homesharing, or business liability insurance on their policy; the town does not accept Airbnb insurance.
