KINGSTON – Ulster County Executive Patrick Ryan, State Senator Michelle Hinchey and Assemblyman Kevin Cahill have called on the State Public Service Commission not to approve the rate increase request from Hudson Valley Water Company last month.

The officials also asked the PSC to require compliance with the agency’s recommendations that have yet to be fulfilled from a 2020 investigation.

Testimony was collected from over 50 people during a June 23 public hearing at Woodstock Elementary School with customers saying they have to buy bottled water for drinking because of the water quality provided by the company, unreachable customer support during frequent service outages, customers being threatened with water shutoff, high minimum fees for minimal service above what is historically or regularly used, customers who pay to have their water tested, treated and other services, and customers who have to pay for repairs after the company digs up water lines.

The request proposed by the three officials was coordinated by the Public Utility Law Project and based on conversations with constituents.
