NEW ROCHELLE – City police are investigating the circumstances that resulted in a 4-year-old child being hospitalized and listed in critical condition after falling from a building.  The incident occurred on Friday, July 8, according to New Rochelle police.

The child’s parents flagged down police officers on Friday at their apartment complex located at 570 5th Avenue in New Rochelle and told them their son was missing and had possibly wandered from the family’s apartment.

Officers searched and located the child behind the 570 5th Avenue apartment building.  He was on the grass, unconscious, and in respiratory distress.   The officers rendered first aid until a crew from the New Rochelle Fire Department arrived along with ambulance personnel to transport him to the hospital.

According to the New Rochelle Police Department spokesperson, detectives are investigating the incident and the parents are cooperating with the investigation.  It appears the boy fell from an unknown height and the extent of his injuries is unknown at this time, according to police.
