TOWN OF WALLKILL – Healthcare professionals rose to the challenge during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and continue to step up to the task of caring for those who are sick.

The president of the Garnet Health Medical Center Network with hospitals in the Town of Wallkill and Harris, Alfred Philong, said the ranks of healthcare personnel remain taxed.

“I would say we are still right in the middle of a significant shortage of health professionals, physicians, nurses, advanced practice professionals, all kinds of clinical support and non-clinical staff,” he said. “It is one of the most difficult and challenging things that is facing the industry right now is the ability to staff to serve our communities.”

Students at the Touro University Middletown Campus have been helping to alleviate some of that shortage by working at the hospitals.
