ALBANY – Governor Kathy Hochul has issued a proclamation declaring that special elections to fill the vacancies in the 19th and 23rd Congressional Districts will be held on Tuesday, August 23, 2022.

The special elections will fill the vacancies created by the resignations of Antonio Delgado and Tom Reed.

Rep. Delgado, a Democrat, resigned shortly after Hochul appointed him to become New York’s Lieutenant Governor, replacing her first lieutenant who is facing criminal charges and resigned.

Rep. Reed, who had announced that he was not running for re-election this fall, resigned amid sexual harassment claims.  The Republican resigned in early May.

“With the resignations of Congressmembers Delgado and Reed, I am declaring a special election to fill these vacancies and ensure continued representation for the residents of the 19th and 23rd Congressional Districts,” Governor Hochul said.
