KINGSTON – A Kingston man who left his infant daughter unattended in a bathtub with running water resulting in her drowning, was convicted by Ulster County Court Judge Bryan Rounds on Thursday on the charge of criminally negligent homicide.

Ashante Inniss, 28, had left his six-month-old daughter in the tub of running water for 25 minutes on April 18, 2020. When he returned to the bathroom, he found her floating in the water and called 911. Attempts to revive the infant were fruitless.

Inniss was arrested later that evening on the criminally negligent homicide charge.

He was also convicted of criminal contempt stemming from a domestic violence incident on November 10, 2020 during which he slashed the tires on his girlfriend’s car and was in her presence while she had a full stay-away order of protection against him.

Judge Rounds sentenced him to one to three years in prison on each conviction, to run concurrently.

Kingston Police investigated both cases.
