Teen on electronic monitoring for assaulting a cop now facing several felony gun charges

POUGHKEEPSIE – A Poughkeepsie teenager was taken into custody early Friday morning after police executed a search warrant related to a Tuesday afternoon gunfire incident.  The 16-year-old is facing multiple felony charges.

The teen has been charged with two felony counts of criminal possession of a weapon, one felony count of reckless endangerment, and felony attempted assault.

City of Poughkeepsie Police Detective Lieutenant Matt Clark said that the teen was taken into custody by the department’s Emergency Services Unit while executing a warrant at his apartment at 5 Reynolds Avenue at 6:05 a.m. on Friday. 

The teen is a suspect in Tuesday’s shots fired incident. Shortly after 3 p.m. on that date, city 911 received several calls reporting multiple shots fired in the area of 618 Main Street, Manitou Avenue, and Church Streets.

Responding officers found no victims but recovered 14 9mm shell casings, five 40 caliber shell casings and two 45 caliber shell casings at the scene.

Video obtained from the area of these shots fired showed a group of high school age subjects engaged in a gunfight with a least one other person while children and adults played and ate in the area.

The teenager is also charged with one felony count of criminal possession of a firearm for possessing a loaded 9mm handgun which was recovered from his bedroom of his 5 Reynolds Avenue apartment.

He was taken to Dutchess County Court Youth Part and arraigned on the charges before Judge Segal and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail.

The teen was out on electronic monitoring for a prior gun arrest and assault on a police officer when this incident occurred.
