Men beat man in hotel room; shot him with a BB gun

CATSKILL – State Police are investigating an incident at the Catskill Inn on Route 9W in which three men entered a man’s room, beat him, and shot him with a BB gun.  The incident occurred on May 7th at approximately 10:30 p.m.

Responding troopers spoke with the victim who state that three males entered his room and began punching him and shooting him with a bb gun. He then stated the assailants fled the area all in different directions. One of the suspects fled the area in a black Ford pick-up truck.  After providing the information, the victim was transported to Columbia Memorial Hospital by Catskill ambulance.

Troopers began a search for the suspects. They observed a vehicle that fit the description provided by the victim at the Cumberland Farms gas station on Main Street in the town of Cairo. The vehicle, a 2004 Ford Ranger and was operated by Christopher Stanton, age 40 from the town of Greenville.

While being questioned Stanton was found to be in possession of crack cocaine and a metal knuckle knife.  Stanton was arrested at the gas station.  After speaking with troopers, Stanton was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a controlled substance, and burglary: entering a dwelling causing injury, all felonies.

Stanton was arraigned in the Town of Cairo Court and remanded to Greene County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail, $50,000 bond, or $100,000 partially secured bond.  He has a return date for Catskill Court on May 12, 2022, at 4:00 p.m.

This investigation is ongoing.
