Police brass, at the crime scene, outline the events

YONKERS – A Yonkers Police detective was shot in the abdomen around 2:10 p.m. on Wednesday and the perpetrator was shot and killed by an FBI agent (Police outline the events in this video.)

The Yonkers officer was a member of the FBI’s Westchester Safe Streets Task Force that was conducting a law enforcement investigation in the area of Elm Street and Linden Street related to illegal firearms.

Task force members attempted to stop several people who entered a bodega deli at 115 Elm.

The 27-year veteran of the department is a decorated detective who attempted to detain one of the suspects inside the store when that suspect fired a concealed weapon at the detective hitting him in the abdomen. The federal agent fire back and shot the suspect.

Both men were taken to area hospitals with the detective undergoing emergency surgery for life-threatening internal injuries, but police officials said he is listed in serious but stable condition.

The 28-year-old suspect was declared dead at the hospital.

Two illegal firearms were recovered at the scene.

Surveillance video captured the shooting incident.

The investigation into the incident is continuing.
