Region suffers from windswept brush fires

MID-HUDSON – Friday’s winds and dry conditions helped spark several brush fires across the area.

Fire officials advise people to be cautious about barbequing or other open fires and tossing lit cigarettes.

Among the brush fires reported were ones in Millbrook, Napanoch, Town of Olive and Walker Valley. All occurred in mid- to late afternoon.

In Millbrook, a two-alarm brush fire broke out at 373 Shunpike. The large fire was reported by command to be wind driven and spreading into the woods. Mutual aid was called in to control the fire.

In Napanoch, a wind driven brush fire was reported at 47 Fordmoore Road. Mutual aid for brush trucks was called in.

The two-alarm brush fire at 1260 Ulster County Route 2 in the Town of Olive also required mutual aid assistance to contain.

The fire in Walker Valley was reported at 594 Upper Mountain Road. A 20 by 20 foot detached shed was on fire with flames spreading to brush.
