Hudson Valley jobs grow by 3.7 percent

Albany – Leisure and hospitality business is very much alive and well in the Hudson Valley as 12,000 new jobs were created in March, the State Labor Department reports.

Overall, in the region, there were 27,400 new jobs created, or 3.7 percent, bringing the total to 765,100.

Ulster County had the greatest job growth at 7.9 percent. That was followed by Sullivan County with 5.9 percent growth.

Greene County experienced 4.1 percent job growth, followed by the Orange-Rockland Westchester Metro Area, at 3.5 percent, Dutchess-Putnam Metropolitan Division at 2.6 percent growth, Delaware County with 1.0 percent growth and Columbia County, with 0.7 percent growth in new jobs.

Regionwide, the professional and business services added 4,900 jobs; trade, transportation and utilities added 4,500 jobs; other services added 4,100 jobs; manufacturing grew by 1,600 jobs; and financial activities saw a 700 increase in jobs.

Job losses were in educational and health services, with jobs dropping by 600.

Private sector job growth continued to be broad-based, with seven of nine sectors adding jobs for the 12-months through March 2022. Two sectors posted year-over-year job gains of at least 11.0 percent. Leisure and hospitality continued to be the region’s leading jobs generators, up 17.8 percent over the period.

Through the first three months of 2022, the sector is averaging a year-to-year growth rate of 19.5 percent.
