Teen charged with stabbing a person to death

MOUNT VERNON – A Friday afternoon stabbing in Mount Vernon resulted in one person being killed, another with multiple stab wounds, and a teenager facing manslaughter charges.

According to Mount Vernon Police, the fatal stabbing occurred at approximately 3:55 p.m. in the vicinity of Gramatan and East Prospect Avenues in the city.  A second individual also sustained several stab wounds during the altercation and was treated at Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital.

Detectives from the Mount Vernon Police Department were able to identify the suspect after a thorough review of numerous recovered videos. With the assistance of the FBI Safe Streets Task Force and the Westchester County Police Department Detective Division, the suspect, age 15, was located late Friday night and placed under arrest.

The Mount Vernon teen was held overnight in anticipation of arraignment on charges of manslaughter and attempted assault.

This matter will be handled in the Youth Part of the Westchester County Criminal Court. At this time no names are being released due to the ages of the persons involved.

The second victim is expected to make a full recovery.
