NEWBURGH – A Town of Woodbury woman has been arrested by the state police after driving the wrong way on Route 9W in the Town of Newburgh. The driver was allegedly drunk and in possession of heroin.
Thirty-year-old Lymaris Valverde of Woodbury was charged with criminal mischief, criminal possession of a controlled substance, and Driving While Intoxicated (DWI), all misdemeanors. She was also issued 13 tickets for the incident.
Troopers say that on March 19, 2022, at approximately 4:00 a.m., they observed a car traveling northbound in the southbound lane on State Route 9W in the town of Newburgh and observed the vehicle almost strike another vehicle head-on prior to pulling the vehicle over.
Troopers were able to stop the vehicle and identified the operator as Lymaris Valverde. While speaking with Valverde, troopers observed that she was impaired by alcohol. They also learned that the vehicle had switched plates and had no insurance. Valverde was taken into custody. While the vehicle was being towed from the scene, Valverde stated she hoped both troopers got killed, adding that she would come to the barracks and do it herself.
While being transported to the barracks, Valverde attempted to kick out the rear driver’s side door and window. Once at the barracks in Montgomery she was processed for DWI, registering a B.A.C of .16%. Troopers also found her to be in possession of 1.3 grams of heroin. While being processed she further stated that because of bail reform she would return and “blow the trooper’s brains out”.
Valverde was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Newburgh Court on April 19, 2022, at 11:00 a.m.
