Former Poughkeepsie pastor arrested on sex charges

PHILADELPHIA, PA – James Garisto, the former pastor at St. Peter’s Parish in the Town of Poughkeepsie has been arrested in Pennsylvania on charges of sexually assaulting a child repeatedly.  Garisto was the Pastor of St. Peter’s in Poughkeepsie from 1998 to 2014.

Garisto was arrested on January 27, 2022, and released after posting 10 percent of his $75,000 bail.  Police say the pastor sexually attacked the child hundreds of times between 1995 and 2002.

This is the third occasion that Garisto has been accused of sexually assaulting a minor.  He has been on leave from the Archdiocese since 2019 and resides in a Philadelphia suburb.
