City police collecting evidence at 49 Gifford Avenue.

POUGHKEEPSIE – City police are investigating a Thursday morning shooting that claimed the life of a male.  The victim was shot inside of 49 Gifford Avenue and succumbed to his injuries at MidHudson Regional Hospital a short time later.

City of Poughkeepsie public safety dispatch received a call at 10:29 a.m. on Thursday reporting gunshots fired in the hallway of 49 Gifford Avenue.  The first arriving officer located the victim inside the residence with a gunshot wound to his chest.  The victim was quickly removed from the residence to fire and EMS personnel that were staged in the vicinity. The man was transported to the hospital as police worked to secure the rest of the two-family residence, searching for additional victims or suspects.

At the scene, Poughkeepsie Police Captain Rich Wilson told Mid-Hudson News “One weapon has been located and other evidence that indicates a shooting occurred in the structure.”

Captain Wilson indicated that a substantial amount of manpower was assigned to the crime scene to collect evidence and interview potential witnesses.  “Our investigative efforts will be moving forward from here.”
