GOSHEN – A 34-year-old Sparrowbush man was sentenced in Orange County Court on Thursday to seven years in state prison and five years of post-release supervision for selling guns illegally to an undercover police officer.

Daniel Cabral had pled guilty to criminal possession of a weapon for possessing guns sold to the officer.

Prosecutors had argued that on July 15, 2021, Cabral sold a Glock 27 .40 caliber pistol and ammunition to the officer for $500. It was also alleged that on July 19, 2021, he sold a Ruger .357 caliber revolver for $550, and on July 20, 2021, he sold a Taurus 9 mm pistol and matching ammunition to an undercover officer for $600.

Investigating the case were Port Jervis City Police, Orange County Drug Task Force and Town of Deerpark Police.

“As this case demonstrates, those who engage in illegal weapons sales risk lengthy incarceration,” said District Attorney David Hoovler. “We are only too aware of the intolerable level of gun violence plaquing many of our communities. While there is no problem with law abiding citizens responsibly owning firearms, illegal gun sales such as the ones made by this defendant only serve to put guns in the wrong hands, with often tragic results.”
