Two shot in Newburgh; one in critical condition

NEWBURGH – Two teens were shot in the City of Newburgh shortly after midnight Friday morning, the second shooting incident of the new year.

Police Chief Anthony Geraci said one victim, who is 18, was wounded in the buttocks while the other, who is 17, sustained gunshot wounds to his face and back. He was transferred to Westchester Medical Center from Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital while the other wounded youth was treated at the local facility.

Both are from Newburgh.

Geraci said the Shot Spotter program alerted the police to 19 rounds of gunfire, but 21 shell casings were recovered in the area of Overlook Place and South Lander Street.

The Orange County Sheriff’s and District Attorney’s offices are assisting in the investigation.

Police are looking for any witnesses who may have been in the area at the time of the shootings. Anyone with information is asked to call them at 845-569-7509. Callers can remain anonymous.
