TOWN OF LAGRANGE – The Arlington Central School District (ACSD) was forced to send students home early on Wednesday and go to online learning for Thursday and Friday due to a COVID outbreak among bus drivers. The announcement was made on Wednesday, January 5.
According to an email from ACSD officials, nine bus drivers in the district tested positive for COVID on Wednesday morning, creating a substantial shortage of eligible drivers. As a result, Arlington High School students were dismissed at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Middle and elementary students were released at regular times.
Responding to the driver shortage, ACSD is moving to “asynchronous” learning on Thursday, January 6. Teachers throughout the district will post assignments via Google Classroom by 8:00 a.m. for students in grades 6 – 12 and by 8:30 a.m. for grades K – 5. With asynchronous instruction, the students will be responsible to complete the assignments without interacting with their teachers.
On Friday, January 7, the district will move to “synchronous” learning for all students. In this format, students will have direct interaction with their teachers pursuant to the schedules below. ACSD said that on Friday, they will reassess the situation to determine when in-person instruction will resume. The priority for the district will be returning to in-person for special education students first.

An email sent to parents from Superintendent Dr. David Moyer on Wednesday also said “The District Office will be open on Thursday and Friday, and the hours for Test to Stay (6:45 a.m.-8:45 a.m.) remain unchanged. Additionally, parents of students in grades 6-12 will still be able to pick up their home test kits on Thursday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. He also said “The District is committed to sustaining in-person learning for students and will send a follow-up communication with plans for next week no later than Saturday, January 8, at 5:00 p.m.”
