POUGHKEEPSIE – A water main break on Rinaldi Boulevard in the City of Poughkeepsie around 12:10 a.m. on Friday sent water and mud rushing down the street and required city cops to shut the road down.  The broken pipe disrupted water service to the Hudson Terrace complex for more than an hour Friday morning.

Mayor Rob Rolison was immediately made aware of the situation and took to social media. “The City is aware of a water main break on Rinaldi Blvd. Crews are being mobilized to respond to this incident. We will advise when we have information on the break and the extent of the damage.”

The city contracts with Veolia North America for water and sewer work, using City of Poughkeepsie vehicles and equipment. Within 30 minutes, Veolia workers were on the scene and were able to reduce the amount of water being released from the pipe.

City Manager Marc Nelson told Mid-Hudson News that the crews worked through the night, in the rain, to make temporary repairs.

A 10-inch main has to be replaced, and the city anticipated being able to restore water service Friday afternoon or early evening.
