POUGHKEEPSIE – Dutchess County Legislator Kristofer Munn (D-Red Hook) has filed an Article 78 petition seeking to vacate a decision against him by the Dutchess County Board of Ethics.  The committee had received several complaints regarding Munn’s use of a GoFundMe page to solicit donations for his legal defense after he was sued by the owner of local movie theaters.

The full story about the movie theater lawsuit can be read HERE.

According to the petition, Munn, through his attorney Michael Treybich, seeks to vacate and set aside the November 22, 2021 determination of the Dutchess County Board of Ethics that found Munn improperly used his position and title as a Dutchess County Legislator to solicit and receive money to be used to pay for his own personal expenses, and ordered Munn to cease and desist using his position and title as a Dutchess County Legislator to directly, or indirectly, or in any manner, to solicit or receive money or gifts for his own personal use, namely his legal defense.

Ethics Board Chairperson Tara Sullivan, who the Democrats want removed from office, said in the decision that the four members of the board agreed “That Legislator Munn has improperly used his position and title as a County Legislator to solicit and receive money to be used to pay for his own personal expenses.”

Treybich said the Ethics Board is wrong. “In fact, they are so wrong that I can only assume that their decision was politically motivated. I hope that the Court will do the right thing and throw it out.”

Munn’s online fundraiser is still operational and can be found HERE.
